Nakiyah Hayling was born and raised in NYC and has always been passionate about helping people, writing, and entertainment. She grew up singing mostly in faith based environments and studied vocal technique formally at the Singer’s Forum in NYC on scholarship as a teen. These grooming experiences contributed to 20+ years of developing expertise in the many facets of music and vocal production.These experiences contributed to her passion for and understanding of quality sound. She became an avid lover and consumer of all types of music. Nakiyah continued to exercise her vocal skills by singing background vocals for artists and serving in the music department at her local church. After completing undergraduate studies, Nakiyah spent time in the social services and program management sector until she realized that she needed to fuse her passion for music and media with aiding people in achieving their dreams. In 2010 Nakiyah embarked on a career discovery and development journey and she landed in the entertainment media field. She began as a regular contributor for Gospelflava.com, a longstanding online entertainment website in the Gospel Music industry. She starting as a panel contributor for special events and quickly became a staff writer, blog editor, and lead interviewer for the site. While serving as a contributor for at Gospelflava.com she wrote reviews of music projects, reviewed song submissions for a monthly chart she created, and attended a host of musical events to provide readers with an inside scoop on the goings on of the Gospel music entertainment industry. 2011 proved to be a trailblazing year for Nakiyah as she began to see more movement in her new career focus. She began writing for a local NYC publication,The Harlem Times, and she enjoyed a short stint as a radio announcer for a growing internet radio station. Nakiyah was commissioned to write an article for the nationally distributed Time Inc. publication, Essence magazine via their dot com outlet. That same year Nakiyah decided to continue to hone her skills in media and the entertainment industry and enrolled in the media studies graduate degree program at The New School in NYC. Nakiyah tailored her master’s level studies to focus on the entertainment industry.
In 2013 Nakiyah accepted a position in radio promotions at eOne Music Nashville. She is apart of a phenomenal team that have been integral in assisting top Gospel acts in achieving multiple award nominations and wins, #1 chart positions on the Billboard charts and the national Gospel radio chart, and attaining #1 sales status in the Gospel music genre. In 2014 while adjusting to this new career path Nakiyah graduated with honors from The New School’s Media Studies graduate department with a Master Of Science in Media Management degree. This course of studies equipped her with key knowledge and skills to manage creative individuals, develop strategic plans, and train individuals on how to remain technologically astute in a growing media culture. At eOne Music Nashville Nakiyah has worked with an array of artists including: Jonathan McReynolds, Michelle Williams (of Destiny’s child), Erica Campbell, Tweet, Lalah Hathaway, Deitrick Haddon, Todd Dulaney, Karen Clark-Sheard, Donald Lawrence,William McDowell and many more. In 2016 Nakiyah was given the opportunity to head up the radio dapartment at eOne Music Nashville and serve as Director of Radio Promotions. She has has the privilege of garnering airplay for key songs, overseeing the development and execution of promotional tours, establishing innovative initiatives that will expand the viability of radio for artists under the eOne roster.
Nakiyah has not stopped there. She continues to flex her media management skills via her consulting agency Pivotal Media Consulting LLC. Pivotal Media Consulting provides advisement on digital media strategy, promotional materials, and biographical services for clients that want to bolster their brand strength. She began functioning as a freelance media strategist in 2011 and has continued to build her firm and clientele. Some of her clients have included Sony Music Entertainment, Mighty Dominion Entertainment, Worth PR, Maxximum Artist Management, POWAMM Music Label & Change Direction Mental Health Initiative, and a host of independent artists. Nakiyah has created strategic media plans, biographies, provided management consulting, and continues to pursue opportunities to poignantly and intriguingly tell the stories of others. Nakiyah has a passion for music, entertainment, and pop culture and continues to immerse herself in the media world. Nakiyah plans to expand her reach in the media world and continues to pursue opportunities to deliver a brand promise of excellence, unprecedented creativity, and cutting edge perspectives.
